Used my Esee for a survival challenge...

So there was a challenge to do a handful of tasks using only one cutting tool and generally being resourceful.

Tasks:
Build a shelter
Make a whistle
Make a ground to air signal of some form
Purify water
Make a fire by bow or hand drill, but if using bow drill only natural cordage is allowed.

I chose to do all this using only my Esee-4.

Now I have some travel to Central America coming up and I plan on carrying the 4 with me so I wanted to build up my confidence in the knife (I'm new ;) ). Now, the fact of the matter is I didn't get to use the knife enough at all. My edge was my greatest resource thus conserving it meant doing a lot of tasks by hand with out cutting. (Example: fire base board by breaking a limb as opposed to cutting it).

If you guys are interested, here is the final entry. (be warned it's 17 minutes or so)

All said and done, I played with the knife a lot after the video and it handled everything like a champ! And for the record, after dozens of failed attempts I finally came to the conclusion that milkweed cordage is not suitable for a bow drill. :D

Man you do not have to conserve the edge on these knives. Use the knife more get good with it and you will see. Carry an extra fine diamond rod, touch it up after each hard session and you will be good to go for a long time. Try the 6. Just messin the 4 is a great survival knife.

Haha! That is prob very true from what I can tell. But conserving your blade was part of the challenge it's self. ;)

Nice! I liked the fact you were able to use some man made objects that you scavenged. Surely it was no easy task. Good work.
