So there was a challenge to do a handful of tasks using only one cutting tool and generally being resourceful.
Tasks:
Build a shelter
Make a whistle
Make a ground to air signal of some form
Purify water
Make a fire by bow or hand drill, but if using bow drill only natural cordage is allowed.
I chose to do all this using only my Esee-4.
Now I have some travel to Central America coming up and I plan on carrying the 4 with me so I wanted to build up my confidence in the knife (I'm new
). Now, the fact of the matter is I didn't get to use the knife enough at all. My edge was my greatest resource thus conserving it meant doing a lot of tasks by hand with out cutting. (Example: fire base board by breaking a limb as opposed to cutting it).
If you guys are interested, here is the final entry. (be warned it's 17 minutes or so)

All said and done, I played with the knife a lot after the video and it handled everything like a champ! And for the record, after dozens of failed attempts I finally came to the conclusion that milkweed cordage is not suitable for a bow drill.
