It’s deer and elk season here in Colorado. My typical deer hunt consists of going afoot up a roadless mountain and walking/climbing most of the day.
This season was no exception with lots of moving in very beautiful and tough terrain. I took my buck about 1,200’ above the truck at last light on a very steep slope. Taking an animal out field dressed under these conditions is out of the question so I began skinning and quartering with my Esee 3hm.
After going through most of the animal,!the Esee became dull and I reached in my pocket for my 0562 in S35VN.
The blade worked admirably and I was able to touch up the edge easily on my sticks after the hunt.
Today, after getting all the meat processed, I had time to take the 0562 apart to clean it. I was a bit surprised to find a good deal of rust in the pivot. Turns out this is from the bearings in the washers.
Overall, this seems to be a great knife. Thinking about ceramic washers now though, but I’ve read they may wear the frame and blade down.
