Hi all!! Have I ever mentioned how much I hate Microsoft Help, which is an oxymoron if ever there was one? Specifically, I want to change the background in my document, but only onscreen. I like to set the color to tan or amber, because I find it much gentler on the eyes than white. Unfortunately, I can't find how to do it in Word 2007, and the "Help" is as much use as teats on a bull. As usual. Can anyone help me out here?

Cheers, Acolyte.

OK, its under the Page Layout menu. But I still say the Help is useless.

Cheers all, hope your knives are sharp!

FWIW, the new format in Office 2007 has a steep learning curve, but once you do something you'll never forget how you did it... until the next version :D

I use Word 2003 at work where I do at least 90% of my writing and I have Word 2007 on my laptop at home. I can never find anything in 2007 - the first time I used it I couldn't even figure out how to save the file because there is no pull-down menu bar (File, Edit, View, Insert, Format, etc.). I finally clicked on that round thing and was able to save the file.

Using the words "useless" and "Microsoft" in the same sentence is generally considered to be redundant and repetitious. I'm reporting this to the Bureau of Redundancies Department. ;)

You can change it system wide by right clicking on a blank spot on your desktop and clicking "properties" in the context menu. In the tabbed dialog box select the "appearance" tab. Another box will pop up. Place the cursor in the "active window" and left click. The dropdown box should read "window". Change the color by selecting a preset from "Color 1" or choose a custom color from "other...". This will change all text area backgrounds in "Word", "Notepad" etc. Even the area where you compose a post in your browser if you have it set to use "system" styles. I assume you are using a Windows operating system?
