Recently picked up a 6" #25. Intend for this knife to be a user ... specifically for elk and big game.
The knife came with a beautiful near apple seed edge profile / grind.
Randall advertises their blades are flat ground with a 40 degree overall grind. This one looks more hollow or saber ground.
My blade has a edge profile that won't cut newsprint but will cut paper stock quite well.
My question is what have others used for a general utility grind? Have you users reprofiled your blades to a higher grind in the 20-30 degree overall range and did the blade hold that edge? Will the O-1 steel take a polish or do you recommend a toothier edge finish?
I'm an experienced freehander with bench stones and have diamod and ceramic stones to put a quality edge on this blade. Just not sure what this steel / blade can handle before rolling or chipping the edge with reasonably hard use.
Could really use some help here.
Thanks!
