Hey guys, I just wanted to get some input on a new website I'm working on. The plan is to have a site that users can use as a global knife/blade database, which would keep spec data on each blade.

The URL is http://www.bladedb.com - keeping in mind that it's still in 'beta', and if anyone is interested in helping, please let me know! I want to build this into something big. I have some blades added already, and the information may not be 100% accurate at the moment, but I'm working on correcting that. Are there any other features that you'd like to see? What can make that a perfect site? I also plan on linking articles/reviews/places to buy, for each blade - this will give the user an easy outlet.

If I'm breaking the rules by posting this, I'm very sorry, and please either remove it ASAP, or I can do that myself.

Thanks!

Xil3

I'v always thought if only there was a website where one could find discussions and reviews of knives, as well as links to places to buy knives....You may be on to something there! :)

I think it's an excellent idea, however a specs database should probably refrain from comments like "ceramic knives last forever and don't loose edge" etc, not exactly true and stay more neutral.

I suppose it would be similar, but it would also have ratings and comments. Also plan on adding more interactive widgets.

filters for blade length, steel type, price, handle material, brand, lock, blade shape, sheath material, country of origin, etc would be great.

Xil, I have over 200(238 ATM) knives specs in my review database on zknives.com.
I can't promise that I will enter them manually, but I can export the data in SQL dump, if you are willing to convert data, I am willing to provide it.

Data fields include: name, model, type(fixed, folder, etc), subtype(utility, survival, etc, etc), blade geometry, blade length(in mm), OAL, thickness(at the heel), width(at the heel), weight(grams), steel, hardness, handle, serrations type(none, semi, full), maker, price. There's few other fields, but those are internal for my site, you have no need for those.

Gator97, absolutely - I'd definitely appreciate it! Can you send me a private message via the forum with your email address, and we can talk via that?

If anyone else has any suggestions, or wants to help with the site, anything is appreciated! :)

Can't PM. Use contact form on zknives.com.

I tried and it gave me a mailing error. I'll just stick the message here:

Hey, this is xil3 from bladeforums.com - can you send the SQL dump of the knives to me at jon {{at}} j4r {{{dot}}} org?

I like your site - it looks like you put a lot of effort into those reviews!

And is there any chance you can add a link to my site from yours (http://www.bladedb.com)?

Thanks again,

Jon
