Hey guys

most of you have seen my user SJTAC, what do you think it's value is with the armorall sheath??

$35. PayPal sent. :p

I haven't see it. CG or LE? Scales and coating could make a difference.

I fixed it for ya

Be warned that there are a LOT of SJTACs out there, so unless you happen to have the color combo that a specific person wants, they can be tough to unload right now. I had my mint, unused sage and sandstorm on the market for quite a while, when I knew I was gonna be getting one of the smooth bolts, and I just finally shipped it out today - and it was priced fairly close to what I paid for it. In that case, the expensive multicolor G10 handle upgrade didn't help either, since it drove the price of the knife up and made it tougher to sell.

I'd just keep it - SJTACs rule. :D :D If I didn't have the sexy, sexy smooth bolt, no way would I have let the sandstorm out of my grasp.

my BWM & BOSS will take over jobs that the SJTAC was doing.. time for something new and am trying to work out a trade but not quite sure what a fair price for my knife with sheath is !!

stick it in the for sale section and slap a price on it and see what the market will bear, as mm states they are several sjtacs out there, and you know what you have to get, to break even

if you wanted to get what it's worth - 400$
if you want to actually get it sold in the next 6 months - 300-350$

The only thing keeping that knife above the 300$ range is the sheath, so your pricing is dependent on the market for a sjtac with a burly drop leg dwayne puckett sheath. If you were selling the knife by itself, given whats currently available I'd say 265-300, at 300 it might sit for a while, but you might find someone who wants something that looks used so they are more likely to use it themselves.

I would say $300 is a bit optimistic for a user in this current market. Mine, with the sandstorm handles and completely mint, went for $340, and it took quite a long time to sell.

I recommend searching the sale forum to research similar sales.

There are a couple in the for sale section now, your best option is to check there for ones that are for sale, and others that have sold in the past while to get a value.

the unfortunate part about using previous sales prices to price your item is that it is inevitably superseded in the eyes of buyers by current available pieces. If your willing to wait for those lower cost peices to be purchased and taken off the market in the hopes that the next wave of knives will either be priced at or above your current asking price you might be able to win out in the end, but you will have to wait for the market to clear wich could take months. If the new knives that come in to replace the lower cost knives your contending with are -still- lower than yours, you need to have something special that would attract a higher price, such as a rare finish or custom feature.

In this case, it's the sheath. Sad to say, but I doubt it will draw in buyers anymore than the equivalent 20$ kydex/cordura sheath. It all depends on how long your willing to sit on your investment.

You might also consider selling them separately, price the sjtac on the low end (265-285) and sell the sheath for around 40-60$ depending on it's condition. You will probably be able to move them faster and recoup your costs better than selling it as a package.

very helpful - thanks mate

As I recall, the last base price quote for SJTACs (as of April 2008, when they released the ETS version) was $267. Magnum handles and different handle materials can increase the value. I paid $312 at the Spring 2008 Knob Creek for a Muddy SJTAC with Tigerhide mags, which is a fairly rare variant. Sometimes being a user doesn't seem to affect value much, other times it does, and I really don't know why it's not more consistent.

LVC has discussed some market dynamics; I'll just add that the secondary market still seems somewhat depressed to me. It's not unusual to see knives being sold below retail. Personal economics and uncertain times have resulted in some highly motivated sellers and buyers who are concerned enough about the future that it takes a deal to get them to release cash.
