Username Change: ignoramus

ACH!
doubtless a proponent of LEAN knife production!

I once had a Lean sensei whose email was muda-san. The man reminded me of Cliff Stamp, really bright and knowledgeable, but with zero people skills.

If the above statements make no sense, I apologise. If they do make sense, ACH!

It doesn't make sense and dammit, I now must know what it means:). Kaizen means "constant improvement" in Japanese.

Then my apologies.

Kaizen does mean change or improvement in Japanese. And it is a term used for one of the fundamental tools of the Toyota Production system: a contiual focus on improving (changing) the production system. Other tools are "Just in Time Manufacturing", one-piece flow. Many others.

James Womack coined the term "lean Manufacturing" as his take on the Toyota production system.

My company went to Lean in a big way and hired a consultent who was highly trained in the Toyota production system. He had trained under some of the famous Japanese proponents and developers of the Toyota Production System. Our sensei taught us to form Kaizen teams. These were teams made up of folks who did each process, maintained the equipement, engineered the process. They would examine each step of a manufacturing process to establish the best method to do each step, and identifying wasted movement and wasted time. The Japanese word for waste is "muda". Our sensei spent much time drilling us in identifying sources of waste and eliminating them. So his email was "muda san" ="mr waste".

Like I started. Sorry I interrupted. "Kaizen" is a loaded word to me as I studied under that man for a year. No people skills, but very very sharp.

Ignore my gunk. I think it would be an excellent screen name.

Actually, thanks for the review. It's been awhile since I read that story. I'm more familiar with Dr Edwards Deming's role in the term. It was the original motivation for my attachment to the word. So, I was supposed to know that.

There's already a username of Kaizen in the system. Please choose another username.

How about: Kaizen1

I'm pretty sure that's not in the system.

I don't think it's a good idea to have members with usernames that are so close together. Be original.

I checked the history on the guy with the Kaizen name, he doesn't have any posts, not even one. And now that I think of it, I tried getting this name when I came to these forums in Jan '06 and it was taken then. Almost 2 years and no posts ever. I don't think there will be much confusion since the other guy doesn't even post.

If you still want me to come up with something else, let me know. I use that name in other forums that I go to and would really like to keep them similar if it's okay.

If the other guy hasn't posted in two years we can reasonably assume he's not going to. He'll get purged eventually; Spark periodically purges members who have never posted.

Does that mean I get the name?

Think about, what's he done for you guys lately? I'm willing to pay for what he got for free and he didn't even contribute to this wonderful community. If not for me, do it for the hamster in my avatar:D.

Hey Mods,

I hate to be a bother, I know you guys are constantly putting out fires and all. I'm just wondering when I might be able to get my new name.

Don't hold your breath much longer ;)

Thanks for the notification. I was wondering when it was going to say that I was a gold member. This new name kinda feels like I just got a radically new haircut.
