Username correction

When I joined ten years ago, I didn't realize that putting my username in all caps suggested anything, but later found it meant either that I was shouting or exaggerating the importance of my name over others. I've often regretted my short-sightedness and ignorance of web protocol at the time.

I'd like to change my username from WILL YORK to Will York, but I wouldn't want to lose my number of posts indicator or any other identifying links/aspects.

Is this possible to do without affecting other aspects of my membership, how my name comes up in searches, or PM's, or the access others have to me?

Thanks,
Will

You shouldnt lose any aspects of your membership by having your name changed but it probably is still gonna cost you $10 for the change.

I don't mind paying the ten bucks, but "shouldn't lose any aspects of your membership" isn't really the answer I was after. Is there anyone who knows the system well enough to give me a definitive answer? Do I need to take this to a PM directed at a specific person who has some expertise on this particular subject?

Don't mean to discount your advice, Karda, and I appreciate it. But making the change and then realizing there's an "oops" factor is not something I want to do.

will, everything else will stay the same and you wont loose post count.

Hi Richard,

Thank you very much for that. I assume it comes from your personal experience. I'd still appreciate a reply from someone in the "technical department" with BF before I take the plunge.

Thanks to all,
Will

I guess the key here is whether all of my old posts under "WILL YORK" would also automatically change to show the caps/lower case version "Will York" in the heading, so that searches under "Will York" captures all the old "WILL YORK" posts.

Can someone answer that question specifically for me?

Sorry to be a pain, but I've learned to be a little paranoid about these things--

Will

Good idea to be paranoid (read the fine print:)).

As far as I know, Spark is THE only technical expert here, but when you get an official name change through the system, your old statistics and references carry over to the new name, which is what shows up now over your old posts.

You've been here long enough to know theres always that oops factor, right?..........:D Just Kidding! Your request just changes the letters of your name (or your name if requested ). You will still have the same account, with nothing else changed. All your old posts will make the change as well and people will be able to find them when they search, as it is just a change in captalization (or name) under the same account.

(Unless spark puts his trusty pirate eyepatch on the wrong eye again.)

I don't feel that it's a big deal when it comes to your name (handle). I feel when it does count as yelling is when you have all caps in your post when writing or replying to a thread.
