Uses for nitro pill bottles

Anybody know if the little pill bottles used for nitroglycerin heart pills can be used for repacking purification tablets?

There is a guy who has dozens of these at local gun shows, and I thought about getting a few, and putting small qtys of iodine pills into them, but am concerned with cross contamination.

How best to "clean" them out is another concern.

Any help will be appreciated.

I think he has these for 3 or 4 for a buck. What the heck...

thatmguy,
I was going to say that I thought that it seemed like a good idea, but that I didn't see much advantage since the bottles that I get are just about the same size as the water tablet bottles. To make sure I checked with my wife (nurse) and she said NO! Nitro is just to dangerous for someone with a healthy heart to take a chance with. I have found that in cases like this it is best to defer to her knowledge. ////////slewis36

You could use them, once they were cleaned well enough to remove any Nitro residue ( a little bit wouldn't kill you, would probably only make you a little lightheaded, if anything). I would wash the bottles out like anything else - a little dish soap, scrub w/ a small brush or qtip, rinse thoroughly (several times to be safe), dry completely before using (moisture is very bad for the iodine tabs).

Or you could by new ones at about the same price... www.sunburstbottle.com

I wouldn't worry about minor nitro residue. Nitro is a vaso-dialator (it expands your blood vessels). The effect of nitro is to give you a headache. It is not a heart stimulant like digitalis. Give the bottles a good cleaning.
