Uses for the Roc

I was at a brick and mortar today, and got to hold the Roc. I liked it a lot, and wanted to pull the trigger on it, but I waffled for a bit and ended up walking out empty handed. I have so many knives at this point, I'll only buy a new one if I can justify its use. While I really liked the look and feel of it, I couldn't figure out what role it would fill. I have a Yojimbo 2, and love the wharncliffe shape for its utility, the Roc doesn't come to a point, so it didn't seem like it would do the same work as a wharncliffe.

So, my question is, to those who own a Roc, what do you use it for? Do you find it a useful blade? Basically, please help me justify buying one for a reason other than it looks awesome and is a different style of blade.

The Roc is one of those examples of a Spyderco knife that is purely an expression of artistic design. There are a lot of Spyderco models that fall into this category. So it's not about practical use at all, although it is no doubt well built and can cut stuff (the usual things: boxes, tape, lemons, rotisserie chicken).

I believe the Roc will have it's days of popularity... after it is discontinued and everyone suddenly has to have one. Sorta like the Leaf Storm and Rock Lobster.

Think of yourself as an explorer - tread where few have tread before

And - it looks awesome and is a different style of blade - that too!

The kitchen is probably where it would see the most use without searching for things to cut for the sake of cutting.:)

I'm in the same boat as you. In the end I'll probably get one because it looks really cool and different. I can see it being one of those sought after models years from now like the captain.
