Using a chopper for fine carving

Wow, I'm sure this particular fellow is very experienced, but that looks quite dangerous to the uninitiated.

Wow! That was amazing to watch, but it made me wish he was wearing a leather glove on his left hand and a leather apron to protect his legs.

I lived in Japan for a few years and was always amazed what traditional craftsmen were capable of doing and making.

Anyone notice how sharp his knife is also ?? I mean he could feather the pole effortlessly with no problem:eek:... The shaving are so friggin' thin !! And that cleaver(of sorts), tht thing is out and out scary sharp.. Gotta respect a person who uses those with such confidence...

Thanks for sharing...

I definitely would have sliced my leg and bled to death if I tried that. I'd like to know the name of that cleaver. Someone asked in another thread about chisel grinds. I guess this is proof positive that they are more than adequate.

That wood looked extremely soft...he sawed through it with the saw handle between his index and middle finger.

It did not look abnormal at all. Just goes to show how far people are from traditional woodcraft if it looks dangerous...

Maybe my latest design might be better at fine tasks than people think !!!
