or another high end custom......Does anyone out there use an expensive forged blade to hunt with? I purchased a Fisk hunter a few months back and am VERY tempted to use it this hunting season. I usually carry a Dozier or Denning blade when hunting. I've never used a forged blade.

Well, I have had the pleasure of using a Fisk damascus folder when assembling the forges for the 2001 Workshop, for a couple hours. Then I had to handle it back to Jerry... does that count? :D

The only, only, ONLY consideration for not using any custom knife is resale value. If this does not concern you, you will get unfound joy and pride in utilizing this knife as it was designed by one of the very best.

But.... if you have an eye for value and this does concern you, then using those others, in turn, will not make you wince.

It's a value judgement entirely.

I guess I should be worried about resale value since this is the most expensive knife I own, but I'm not. The knife screams to be used....Anyone out there use a Master Smith hunter?

I don't use my collector knives, but I do use a Rick Dunkerley cable damascus hunter. It is a great little knife.

Will somone post a picture of this knife for me so you can see what I'm talking about? 4" 1084 blade, thumb notches, stag handle, and Rowe sheath....

I'm sure everybody here would love a have a Fisk Sendero in carbon/stag. I know if I had one I would certainly post a picture of it for you (if I could figure out how).

I used to have a Fisk bowie. I paid $675 for it. Used that thing for everything - camping, work, play, hell I trimmed trees with it - for quite awhile before trading it away - for a Brend I believe. Its like anything else in this world, you get what you pay for. If you use a knife for what it was designed for you will get a certain amount of pleasure from it. Whether you keep or sell the knife you will always have that memory - maybe not the knife itself but the experience.

That said I have a couple Jerry's knives now that I wouldn't dream of using!!

BOTTOM LINE: If you want to use it, then USE it!!!

Man I hope you use it! I know it probably cost you an arm and a leg but as beautiful as it is it I feel it will perform even better than it looks. It is meant to be used so get out there and enjoy it.

i've got a fogg hunter that i use, a lot more pleasure out of using it rather than just fondling it. that said, i'd have a hard time using the more elaborate pieces in my collection.

I used a Fitch hunter last fall and plan on using it this hunting season as well.Best hunter I've ever used.

Doug:)

It's not a Sendero......Jerry named it the "Vende".

I use a Master Smith hunter quite a bit:

Of course, it's not a very expensive MS hunter.

If you are not worried about resale, then you have answered your own question. Slice away!

i use most of my knives, ms or not. the pleasure exceeds the massive decrease in value many times over :)

that excellent camp knife by burt foster for example suffered quite a lot since i got it. but only the first scratch hurt...

Use it. Get just a couple small scuffs on the blade.

And then sell it to me at a huge discount so I can use it without wincing. :D

Oh Yeah!

Some months back bought a really basic 6 & 1/2 in Forged Camp blade by Kevin Harvey as a part to my collection, was reluctant to use it, tried it. It changed my attitude towards carbon, non stainless steels. For some reason I can't find a pic of it at this moment.

My answer to using one of his is to buy another better (earlier post) and set it aside.

P.S I am currently very broke.

Yeah, that. ;) :D

At the same time, save up and get another Fisk to keep pristine as a collector. That's how I roll. Makes no sense, but keeps me poor and in trouble with the wife!

Professor.
