What's the lowest temp that I can us in order to put my mark into my 1084 blades? I'm wanting to ensure good penetration prior to the actual heat treating/quench. I'm planning on using ATP-61 to greatly reduce any decarbonization.....

TIA

Im sure it was made of a different material, but ive used punches to cold stamp letters into steel, and got decent penetration. While it was in an annealed state.

Im thinking you shouldn't have too much of an issue hot stamping it. I would think anything up above critical should be fine. Take this with a grain of salt though.

The answer is going to depend on the amount of detail in your stamp. If it's a signature, you might find you need to heat it up to get the detail you want.
