My wife has a Randall model 20 Yukon Skinner, pretty standard with the leather handle. It is "used" but in new condition. She told me she would like me to use it next year for breaking down my next elk. I know it is called a skinner, but how well do you guys think it will perform compaired to other modern skinning knives? Anyone else use one for field tasks?

Randalls were originally designed to be used. The Model 20 has a nice belly on the blade which should help with skinning tasks. Never used a model 20 myself, so I can't really give a fact based opinion.

I pulled the skinner out when i got home. I handnt really handled it much. It was one my wife picked out and wanted me to use hunting. How can i argue with that. I have to say it is nice. Much lighter in the hand than the larger size would have you think. It feels like it has a nice hollow grind and i think it is a carbon steel since it isnt marked with a "S". I would imagine the carbon steel will take an amazing edge. Really excited to make this one a user.
