ok so quick question for anyone that owns a Shirogorov I just purchased one should get it in about 12 days or so. My question is do you guys use yours I have many many knives I have some Microtech Benchmade zero tolerance knives this is my first high end and I'm not sure if I should use it basically when I buy a knife I plan on using it for a period Of time then it goes in my display case I'm terrible I never get rid of anything I should probably think about selling some.I guess I'm not terribly terribly worried about resale but just not sure if I should actually carry and use this knife thanks guys.

This topic has a variety of opinions here...but what it comes down to is what makes you happy. I've got Sebenza's I throw around like toys and slippies that I treat like gold.

In my case, I usually baby a knife until my next purchase, then the former starts to get used quite a bit more. And if a knife doesn't feel quite right but I like it still, I safe it. If it sits in the safe too long and I forget about it, I sell it once I rediscover it and buy something else I like.

Whatever works for you! I do find a lot more satisfaction in using the blade rather than collecting it...and they won't be coming with when it's time to go so use em while you can, right?

I don't own a Shirogorov, but I do know the feeling of being afraid to use your high-end knives. My advice to you is that for the first couple days, don't do much cutting with it other than paper or other materials that won't mark it up. Play with the knife, fondle it, and decide how much you like it. Then consider your finances. Can you afford to consider that $1000 or so to be gone for good? If you fall in love with the knife and you can afford to consider that money gone - keep it, use it, and enjoy it. You will get a truly immense amount of joy out of using it every day.

If you decide the knife isn't for you and/or you think you are worried you may need that money back someday, you can sell it on the spot and get almost all of your money back, no harm no foul.

Hey thanks for the post's I agree that I should not use it for a couple day's to see if I fall in love with it or not. Yeah I sure hope I love it and can use it it looks so damn sweet in the pictures. Yeah like you say it shouldn't be hard to get rid of if I decide it's not for me.

I've never had anything that expensive...and don't plan to... although I'm aware of Murphy's Law.
Have owned a few knives into the mid-700-range, but my favorites have generally been CRK and Spyderco.
Take your time with the Shiro...don't bum it up and then want to sell it as new. Treat it gently until you know one way or the other, so you can maximize your return if wish to resell.
I would expect it's a great knife...never held one, however.

Thanks Sonnydaze I feel I got a real great deal on this one although I'm not sure exactly what this model goes for as you don't see them very often but I have a pretty good idea I did well on it. So yeah I think I'll play with it at home for a while. To keep it nice till I know weather or not I'm gonna keep it.

Treat it like a $350 knife, the actual cost of them before the upcharge. ;)
Enjoy it and then sharpen it, and enjoy it some more.

My advice would be to play with it but keep it pristine until you're sure you want to keep it.

Then after the decision has been made quickly use it to cut up a bunch of cardboard!

Then when you put it in your pocket and a cutting need arises you won't shy away because it's already a user.

The first scratch or mark is always the hardest.

Although the Shiro that I owned had a terrific stonewash that hid wear amazingly well.

Damn I miss that knife!

Revdevil I've seen the actual cost before the markup is somewhere between 350 and 550 yeah I paid a little more than that for mine but I totally see your point. Thanks for the insight.

I have a few. They are awesome. The only one I don't use is my Cannabis, and that's because it's a limited edition and cost one and a half assloads of money. I can't say I haven't fondled it a lot and cut some paper just to see how sharp that mirror edge actually is. I just don't carry and open boxes with it.

My favorite for a user is the Flipper 95 with bearings...gotta get bearings if you can! The size is PERFECT. I dropped it in a parking lot the day I got it. Couldn't tell you if it got scratched because the stonewashed frame will hide just about anything that happens to it. I just try to take care of the blade reasonably well (it's stonewashed, but not as heavily as the frame). I don't use my knives as pry-bars anyway, so the blade looks new. I figure if I can get all but $100-150 back out of it when (and if) I sell it, I'll have gotten my moneys worth.

Decide if you def. want to keep it, if so, then use it and have fun using it. It's a knife, they are made to cut and be used.

Yeah can't wait to get mine it's on its way from Russia so that's pretty cool in itself but thinking my next will be the 95 cause its a frame lock but the liner locks are sweet as well.

Maybe you should buy some punctuation next.

I get nervous using high end customs because if you have a problem, it's tough to get in contact with the maker. Also turn around times can take weeks to months for repairs once you make contact. I have no problem using the fixed blades though

I love using my 95T, and sometimes have trouble even putting something else in my pocket. I also have an F3 though, and I've only ever carried it probably twice, and decided it wasn't for me as much. The idea of keeping the knife in good shape in case you don't fall in love is a good overall plan, and what I do with all new knives, but inevitably you can tell pretty fast if it's for you or not.

Honestly at this point the only reason I haven't sold my F3 is because I just haven't gotten around to it and there hasn't really been anything else that's caught my eyes. Of course now that the next Ferrum Forge knife is coming out in January...that might change soon ;)

In the long run, I'll probably never sell my 95t unless something insane comes along, but it took a LOT of other knives to get there, some Shiros and many other brands as well, so just find what you like and use it. The plus side with the Shiros is that even when carried, if they're in good shape and you keep them sharp, they still sell well if you need them to, especially rarer steels and configurations. Resale is never why I would buy a knife, but it's a comforting thing to have when you make a large purchase like one of these knives.
