Im using an old belt fora strop.. Its a good piece of leather and not a piece of junk that was pieced together.. The only problem is that its been worn so much the back side is pretty smooth.. Should I rough it up, or just use it as is.. Also, ive seen the videos of guys using a 17 or 20 deg wedge and laying their sand paper over that to maintain their sharpening angle.. Should I do this with a strop or is it even needed..

I may cruise by there next week to check them out.. I will just use the leather as is for now.. Thanks..

It will work without compound but it will be slow, just remember to not use to much presure.

Smooth as in the outside of the belt, or smooth as in the back of the belt that isnt overly furry?? Now that I think about it,I guess the outside would prob be better anyways..
