Using Ferric Choloride to Acid Stone Wash your Beckers

I have seen some knives that have been stripped of their finish and then acid stone washed using ferric chloride solution. Has anyone tried this and how did it work out for you. How did you tumble the blade to get the weathered appearance? For smaller knives some have used a rock tumbler, but this would be too small for the larger Beckers. Perhaps a case tumbler or a machine shop tumbler for deburring tools would work. Let me know if you or some one as tried this method of acid stone wash.
Thanks

Sorry for the dead thread. Maybe some Becker heads are working on one right now. hopefully some pics in the near future too.

This is a tough one. Not many BH's use this method as a mod for their Beckers, I suspect. I think this method is used mostly on customs or other higher-end production knives. But you never know.

samclaymore and Tdhurl1103,
Thanks guys for replying in an effort to revive the thread. I am going to research this some more and see what I can turn up. My biggest concern is that during the process some hexavalent chromium could be released. Hexavalent chromium is carcinogenic if inhaled. If one wears a respirator, and the process is done in a fume hood the it can be safely done as long as the metal is stabilized. At any rate, I was just wanting to know if any one has tried it with 1095CV. I know 1095CV has added chromium that I would need to account for in the treatment process. I will posted additional information depending on what I find and how it turns out.

I did wipe a BK11 with diluted pcb etchant after it got rained on, and it has a very nice patina now. Not going to tumble it, though.

Not to sound ignorant but are you saying add the etchant to the tumbler? Or tumble then etch? (Or vice versa)

I've mostly seen this done to folders...lots of YT vids out there. I don't have pics, but it has been done to larger blades using PVC pipe filled with stones/acid solution and a clothes dryer. The pipe was wrapped in a couple towels to prevent damaging the dryer. Dulls the edge considerably....
