Using General and Buck forum search box.

When I started to read this thread's title, I thought this was a thread on using the Buck General. :D

Thanks for the link, 300!

thanks for sharing Sir, but it should updated. it's all cut up with #82XXs and such. scattered all through it. very hard to read on a phone

There's a good reason for the term "google-fu". Keyword search isn't easy.

Still, all good advice.

I always do a search before asking a question. Mostly search titles only then if that dont get it i will search the threads.
Nice to know about adding asterisks fo short words.
Thank you.

The search function is indeed a great feature and I have found a good deal of information that way. However, there is one problem associated with it's use and that is when someone uses it, locates an older thread with the information in question, and then makes a post in that thread, they are often criticized for a "zombie thread." So perhaps a little understanding in that regard would be helpful in the future.

As long as it is relevant I think it is fine as it keeps the info in one place. But it is aggrevating to go thru it all again unknowingly and find a bs post that revived it.

Reply to all on the Zombie question from Tin. In all that Tech stuff from Spark is a few words on not posting in and bringing forward really long and old threads. Sometime called dead or zombie threads. Yes, some useful info found in searches needs to be renewed, but I think we have discussed in the past that the searcher / re-poster figure a way to insert into the new thread or start a totally new thread with links or quotes back to a old thread without bringing up multi page old posts. It seems to me anyway that lots of people are using phones and don't want to read thru 10 pages of stuff to get to the new info. I applaud someone who finds some good info but if they are new to the Blade/Buck forum they will need to be taught to not drag the whole 10 page, 10 year old thread forward.
In future I will try to link or insert info when possible. As a side issue it is sometimes entertaining to me to see some old names on posts to see who is still around from the distant past. I say that and see TAH has been active 18 years, Tin Sue 12 years and myself 14 years. Whew. 300

I see both sides of it. Sometimes it seems beneficial to add to an old thread and sometimes it is just dumb to add to an old thread. Rules are rules. Put in place to govern how the forum is run.

Some forums actually encourage necromancy instead of having duplicate threads and haveing to rehash all the relevant info whenever the same question is asked. Those forums are easier to search for info. They become like reference books. “All the info for this model is right here”.. as opposed to read through 20 threads that all say the same thing.

I appreciate the work that goes into the forums and try to follow the rules of each one.

AGREED

Something I try to do to help facilitate searches is when posting a new thread be very specific with the key words so that it can easily be found in a search of titles since searching titles is much quicker and can avoid a bunch of useless posts. Giving the thread a bland or vague title doesn't help in searches at a later date.

When you create a new thread there is a spot for “tag” words. Is that to help with searches?
