Hello,
the khukuri is perhaps the most versatile knife on earth - as far as I read to this point people use khukuris

- to chop wood, coins and other things
- as draw/push knives
- as hunting-knives
- to drive nails into wood with the spine
- to scare away neighbors, bears :) and halloween monsters
- to feel good (kind of medicine...)
- to get money one way or the other
- to switch off television (once)
- to provoke guys like us ("I have this special khukuri..." - right Brendan?)

... any more ideas - and which part of the blade except the hard "sweet spot" do you use for the different tasks?

bye,

Andreas

To teach our children the intrinsic value found in genuine handcrafted tools and the broad benefits derived from buying, using and caring for them.

I guess maybe this falls under the "medicine" category.

Hello Stephensee,

sounds unfair, you dare to face your mother-in-law armed only with a khukuri??? :(

Andreas

A handmade Khukuri says, "the buck stops here", that someone really does give a damn and some things have value.

But here goes:

The biggest thing I found Khukuris useful for was generating a sense of friendship and community spirit in a wide variety of good people I have come to like and respect: I'm inspired by the way you people care for each other.

I also felt like I was shaking hands with the maker of my AK when I first got it.

:D Khukuris make Smiles:D

Open a beer bottle cap with the cho.

Convice the ladies that Khukuri length is related to size down there (hopefully without the bend).

Get you name on "special lists" made by customs authorities in less humorous countries.

I feel like that too, Phil the Geezer. Tell me though, should we instruct the Kami's to make the cho's into bottle cap openers?

Hello Andreas,

You're right Andreas, and that's the reason why I have bought a big Tarwar fom Uncle Bill. It's more prudent!

Think about taking the remote control away from someone sitting in an armchair holding a BAS !!!

Didn't think so !!

to provoke guys like us ("I have this special khukuri..." - right Brendan?)

hehehe !! Uncle is good at that, Yvsa is also a bugger when it comes to teasing me.

Without being sappy, I think the most important thing that my khukuris have given me is access to good fatherly advice and an understanding Uncle !!

This use is asking for the safety thread, and normally I am quite safe with all sharp and pointies, and maybe its just because I have some form of nerve damage, but I absolutely found no better a back scratcher than a khukri:eek: :p

I've got to admit. That sounds just a bit dangerous. I usually sharpen mine just a bit when done working with them and, some will shave your arm smooth as a babies rear. I don't think I could talk myself into trying that. You've got more grapes than I do.:D :D

I totally agree with Federico. Khuks make excellent back scratchers. Plus they really wow onlookers;) Just remember, when scratching one's back with a scary sharp khuk, run it from side to side, not up and down;) the former will leave you with a refreshing content feeling. The latter will result in a trip to a very puzzled doctor, several stitches and a humorous story to add the "war stories" thread;)

Another advantage of khuk as back-scratcher is that the back can also be used as a poor mans strop:eek: :D Steely_Gunz has the idea, side to side instead of up and down. Ive tried using other things, even other people, but nothing gets that itch out like a khuk, even compared to other knives. That bend just seems perfectly angled to hit all the right spots:rolleyes: And if you suffer from a hairy back that problem will soon be gone:confused: :barf:
