I've never done this before so I had some questions. First, what color should I purchase? Second, do I just apply it to the threads, set the screw where I want it then wait for it to dry? How long does it usually take for it to set?

I ask because the pivot on my Manix seems to loosen up after an adjustment after only a few openings. Never had this problem before.

Vivi,

I can't remember the color but my advice is to use the weaker Loctite. There are 3 different strengths. What you can do too is, in a first time, to use nail varnish. A very small drop on the screw thread, set it, let it dry. For such small screws it has always worked for me.

dantzk.

I think Blue loctite is what most people recommend. Red is stronger, but it might give you trouble if you want to disassemble the knife later. Standard procedure is to clean and dry the threads with acetone (nail polish remover works), apply a small drop of Loctite on the screw using a toothpick, tighten the screw to where you want it, and give it 24 hrs to set.

Vivi, make a search in the balisong section. Most flippers use some loctite. I use the blue one.

Thanks for the advice. It'll be a shame not being able to use it for 24 hours though.

I use medium red on motorcycle parts. It does not vibrate loose, but can still be broken if needed.

Yeah, but those parts are generally bigger and designed so you can apply more torque. For a small pivot I'd go with blue Loctite (or equivalent).0 If you use something stronger you risk to strip the head if you need to take it apart.
