Using my XM-18 the way its supposed to be used, HARD!

I think many of us forget what these things are intended to be used for... it takes a review like yours to confirm that these customs do often stand up under harsh use as intended. I've had a couple customs fold like cheap lawn chairs under REAL use... then have the makers scratching their heads since they had never had any complaints before. well maybe no one actually used their knives :) good job

Very nice! You picked a great knife from a great maker. How long did it take you to get your XM-18?

MPE

i ordered it last July, but told Mr Hinderer that I wanted it sometime in DEC. However, he ran into a few problems with his equipment, which was fine because I didn't really need it until the culmination anyway.

A nice looking as customs are, I think they look even cooler when they show wear from real use. Adds some character to the knife.

Steve, that is BEAUTIFUL, Thats a good looking knife man. cannot wait to get mine. Used but not abused....thats how they should be:thumbup: :D

I see you prefer tip-down carry eh? Thanks for the XM-18 pics--used is how a knife should look anyway:thumbup:

Here is what is looks like now.

Awe man. Why did you wait till AFTER you cleaned it up to take pix?:grumpy:
That is a sweet blade. I'm glad it served you well.

The rust was driving me crazy! I had to clean it up. Its a habit that they drill into us. Priorities of work means taking care of your equipment before resting.

I don't own any high end knives but i love to see them being used (i'm just a little poor at the moment). It's funny that people buy cheap knives to beat up and save the expensive ones as letter openers and the like. They're expensive for a reason right? good materials and very good quality, they're meant to be USED and meant to hold up. Good on you, a knife is a tool and you use it as such.

However, i'm with voppa, i want to see some dirt, sweat and crud on it. I usually only see pictures of the real nice knives next to watches and gold rings that i also cannot afford.

This is a GREAT post!! My XM-18 IS my hard use knife. I can't wait for MY Duratech 20 CV XM-18. I LOVE that lime green too!

20CV is the steel I believe. It sharpens very easily for me. It came hair popping sharp and it only took 6 passes to restore the edge.
