I just got the surface grinder attachment from OBM and while i have tapered a few tangs to decent success i am trying to figure out the best way to go about setting the attachment.

Yesterday i randomly adjusted but today i figured i would try and use an angle cube so i measured length of the handle and the thickness i wanted the end of the tapered tang and used inverse tangent to get an angle, worked great on the first side but than i over thought the adjustment and tried to compensate for the previous side done and had less than stellar results at first and had to once again randomly adjust to make things work.

Any suggestion how i can better go about adjustments?

Thanks.

I have a homemade sg. It has a pivot stop close to the end of the chuck. I position the end of the blade even with that. I put feeler gauges between the chuck and the stop equal to 1/2 of what I want to remove from the tang. For the second side I double the feeler gauges.
