I saw on the takedown kit that it includes the tools and some loctite. I was wondering if one could use teflon tape on the pivot screw instead. I use teflon tape on all my Benchmade/Spyderco/Kershaw/Emerson knives without any problems. Any reason it wouldn't work? I haven't seen an Umnumzaan taken apart so I'm not sure.

Worth a try - nothing lost, no damage done. I was surprised at how hard it is to find purple 222 Loctite. I wound up ordering some from Brownells. Blue 242 is everywhere. CRK specifically recommends use of 222 rather than 242, perhaps because of worries about the Delrin takedown spanner? Still, 242 is pretty low strength...not sure whether it would be too much for the tool or not.

I have done some work on heating systems in my home. Same principle, smaller screws :) It comes undone very easily too.

There should be no reason for it to not work IMO. And since you already did it on other folders, just go for it.

A year ago I caught the clip on my unum on a chair in church and bet the clip.
I took of the clip and reshaped it back to original fit and all was well ecept that the screw kept coming loose. So I used teflon tape on it and I have not had it come loose since. I am not a big fan of using loctite on my knives.

When I got my umnumzaan in a trade, I took it apart and cleaned it thoroughly. I took a pic of the parts. Teflon tape might work, I never tried it.

It doesn't take much to hold the pivot...a small amount of blue loctite or even nail polish will work....blue loctite will break free easily w/o heat when needed..TT would probably do the trick but a smidgen of LT would be easier.

I have run my pivots w/o anything for about a month at a time with no issues...personally , I like the Zaan pivot better that the Seb because of the adjustability.

Yeah, even without that bushing system, the sheer pivot diameter (not to mention the symmetrical washers) go a long way towards giving the 'Zaan that same 'welded open' feeling that the Sebenza has.

Well I just did it. Took it apart and wrapped a very small amount of teflon tape (2 wraparounds) and put it back together. The pivot doesn't appear to move at all. Easy, but it took like 10 minutes because I was reading the instructions. Next time it shouldn't take more than a couple minutes. I've also noticed that adjusting the pivot to the right tension is really easy. All I did was tighten it down all the way, and then back it off a hair. I tested for blade wiggle and opening smoothness and it was perfect.

Teflon tape is great!

My umnumzaan is due for a cleaning and sharpening. I have some teflon tape and am going to try it. As long as it holds the pivot in place, it should work great. I will keep you posted.

I have used plumbers teflon tape on a half dozen of my knives. Works great.
Cleaner application.
