My school downed a bunch of standing dead pines recently and roughly sectioned them. I loaded up as much as I could carry in my Honda Element and took them home.

I used my scratch build Buck Saw to section them further and then set to splitting them with my Splitting Axe. Once I had them roughly quartered I reduced them further with my Small Forest Axe.

There is nothing like splitting pine to make you feel like a stud. It just FLIES across the yard!

For some reason Photobucket will only show these last two sideways. I guess you will just have to tilt your head. ;)

Hope to get to work splitting some timber for my dad this weekend. He's got some decent logs crying out for splitting but he's just too busy to get to them. Well sunday is D-day for those logs.

I recently scavenged the hedgerows near his house where a farmer had trimmed back the trees. Came up with 3 trunk loads of branches from wrist to thigh thick. Used only my SFA to clean them up and section them. What a pleasure to use that axe is. Can't recommend getting one enough to any doubters.

Really, you can't figure out photobucket???

Wow! I am so glad I didn't waste my money on a college edumacation!

:D

Tal,

How is the homemade buck saw working out for you? What blade do you have in that saw, is it a Bahco pin blade? I have one almost finished and I need to buy a new blade?

cool bucksaw nice and simple...what type of wood and dimensions Tal?

I could only afford the wetterlings splitting maul and forest axe's but sure like the finish on the GB.

bought 4 bahco 21 in blades from a liquidator for 3$ each! what a difference in my bowsaw.

Can't say enough good things about Nordic axes, knives and chainsaws.

That Small Splitting Axe is my favorite GB. It'll blast hardwood apart just as easily as the pine.

The pine will be burned - it is for our fire pit.

The blade IS a Bahco pin - works better for standing dead than live - but is great.

Tony - I clicked and clicked on the rotate button - it was just not feelin' the mood this morning - I am glad you fixed my pics FROM WORK.

I have come to love both of these axes - they fly through wood.

Caleb,

The SFA is awesome for limbing, kindling, smaller rounds, and many other bushcraft things - however, it is highly convexed near the eye and hangs up on stubborn rounds. The splitting axe makes short work of rounds, and I use the SFA after one split.

I would carry the SFA in a pack - and the Splitter in the trunk - I would have a GREAT duo.
