As most of you have noticed you have the option to add a prefix you to thread title. One such prefix is entitled "Off Topic". Here's a suggestion....if you use this prefix in for any thread you start in Community chances are it shouldn't be in Community to begin with and it'll be moved.

I really don't know why we have an "off topic" prefix at all. It just screams "this post doesn't belong here." Worse than that, putting it on your post is essentially saying, "I know that this violates the rules, but I'm going to do it anyway," which just makes the crime worse in my mind. Maybe we should add prefixes for "Spam" and "insulting other members" too? Then we could rig the software to issue infractions automatically.

Anyway, if you take "topic" to mean the overarching topic of this site, which is knives, then Community Center is all about "off-topic" I guess.

This forum is intended for non-knife related discussion, announcements of get-togethers, knife show listings, humor, and everyday life.

So, yes, the "off topic" prefix... just don't use it; it says "I'm deliberately violating the rules."

I think the prefix exists as a convenience for the moderators. It means "I'm a thread some newbie posted in the wrong forum -- move me!" On some websites it might mean something else, but here at Bladeforums we have a forum for almost everything, and the few things we don't have a forum for are things we don't want here.
