Do you find that there is an optimum tool speed for different steels on the Sharpmaker? I think that some materials like to be swiped faster than others. Ive been using the 204 for about two years and have just noticed this.
To me, there is also something going on that relates to the mass of the knife youre sharpening. There seem to be subtle resonances that develop as the knife bounces, albeit microscopically, across the rod.
Also, do you tailor your pressure to the steel youre working? Ive always used a fairly light touch, but some steels need more firmness. Maybe because of that tendency to bounce with a light touch.
