Hi Fellas.
I'm thinking of getting a regular, leather handle Kabar 7" with the hard plastic sheath . I plan on grinding the top guard down. I am wondering if this knife will still snap into the top of the sheath after I do this.

I know the sheath is ambidexterous , but still curious if this will work . Any help is appreciated .

Someone out there has cut the top guard off !

In my brief experience last week with my friend's hard plastic sheath, I *believe* the sheath snaps on the width of the guard, not the length, if that makes sense. I'll check with her in a bit.

Thanks man. I'll try to find some more close-ups or better yet , just buy the damn thing !
Can't go wrong with a Kabar ,Imo.

You're good to go. The sheath clips on the guard at the handle area. Width is important, not the quillions. I've taken them off my 1217's and it works, as the sheath clips in solid.

I have a leather handled Kabar with the leather sheath. Also have a next gen Kabar with the hard plastic sheath. The leather handled Kabar works just fine in either sheath.

I probably got my models numbers mixed up.

Kabar site says full size leather handle knife/plastic sheath is 5017.

Shorties are 1250's I believe.
