Recommendation? USMC Ka-Bar replica.

That’s pretty neat! Did you find the blue print it was wrapped in?

I’d buy a sheath for it and use it myself.

Wonderful keepsake to discover after all those years. Don’t know that I’d try to restore it at all since it looks so classic just the way it is. Maybe just display it with a pic of your dad. Cheers to him and to warm memories.

im used to seeing the ww2 tribute knives that came in a card board box with the blue print on the box. Also it came with a stapled sheath.
Not my picture BTW but I do have the same knife but think the box is long gone.

Title is misleading.
My first thought when I read it was "Why buy a replica when the original is still available at a "reasonable" cost?"

I'd just fix any active red rust.
Toothpaste and old toothbrush (rinse, dry, and oil after it's clean) or oiled steelwool)
sharpen and use it or display it in memory of your pop.

Yeah it was my dad's, I'm sure he bought after his Vietnam tours. It may have been presented to him?

I sent an email to the Ka-Bar CS. Asking if they'd be interested in helping to recondition the knife. Hopefully I'll get a reply. I don't know if if the knife was presented to my dad after his Vietnam tours or if he bought for himself. He seemed to favor the knife, with the few times I saw him with it. Doing some web research, I've seen seen one example of the wooden box and knife set just like this one. I'll try to find it again, because I believe it was on Bladeforum.
