USPS tracking problem

Have you guys met this problem before? A friend on this forum sent me a knife via priority mail. I checked the track number everyday and the only information I got is: "...order received on xxx at xxx", and one day, it arrived just several minutes after I checked the tracking information online and got that same message.
I just sent out a packet via priority mail with receive confirm last Friday, and the tracking information still only shows that it was received on Friday, and nothing else. I am worrying if the same thing will happen or it was lost...

USPS tracking is useless really. The only thing it is good for is to show that a package was sent, and to show that one was delivered.

Other than that, it's pointless...really, I don't know why they provide it, as it is just about useless for actually "tracking" a package.

It is NOT "package tracking" it IS "delivery confirmation". I send a knife to you, you say "It never arrived". Your confirmation number number will tell the truth. I like it.

I was a shipping Coordinator for an Import/Export company for MANY years, we used UPS and RPS and FedEx and LTL Transports for all of our shipments, If you go to the UPS site and Track your package you should be able to see it during each part of its journey (each hub) and at least you will know how close to you it has gotten. As far as saying it was already Delivered.. they have to get a signature and that will show up on the site too. If it does show a signature and its not yours you can call UPS and find out WHERE that driver DID deliver it to.. If you feel your getting the run around ask for a Manager.

Well damn, that is a good point, now that you mention it.

I guess I would just like the USPS to provide some real tracking information, like UPS or FedEx. I would think this information is available, because the postmaster or some such must have a way to trace a package, or am I wrong?

Well I dont know the Tracking capabilities..but I do know that they are still using 386's.. not a good sign! I have spoken to postal workers..and the only thing their Techs ever do is show up with MORE software.. which only makes their systems Even Slower....lol THEY NEED to do an entire Overhaul of their Systems.. Thats a Fact.

I think tracking is available for "Express mail". Not sure. Myself, I would rather pay extra for tracking over their worthless "insurance". (worthless for most transactions with individuals).

I bought a sebenza from someone on the forums and it was shipped out the 15th. It still has not come! It was shipped priority and is insured, I dont know whats going on. They seem very slow. Is this normal?

Yeah, you guys are right. It only confirms package's arrival. I checked 10 minutes ago and it showed the package is delivered.

I use Delivery Confirmation with about 99% of my package shipping, eventho' it IS pretty much useless for "tracking". I have had many packages that have been delivered, but the Delivery Confirmation only showed that the package had been "accepted (for delivery)", for a couple of days AFTER delivery. What the hell...It's only $0.40, and it does give the Postal Clerks something "extra" to do...Besides, it looks cool and official on the package...LOL!!.:).

I am right now waiting to get a knife from Ed Fowler by Express Post. I have been tracking it as it has made it's way across the US. They say that they update the information every night, and so far that is exactly what has happened. It is now in Canada and I am not sure if this tracking information will continue, but so far it has been great.
I also agree that the most important part is the delivery confirmation. That makes it impossible for someone to say they did not get a package when they actually did.
