Ok, it hurts to admit it...but i'm a total loser when it comes to sharpen my chisel Emerson's.

I know that chisel edges should be easier/quicker to sharpen but for me it takes ages and usually id dones't go very well either :(

Got myself a neat P-SARK in a trade some week ago and i've been (ab-)using it at work and it's dull as a butter knife now.

So please, help me out with your sharpening tips!!

I've tried marking the edge with a felt pen to see which angle i'm honing at, i've looked at EKI's site and i've read everything that i can think about, i just need your tip now!

Please help a dull Swede ;)

i finally got my BM 975SBT chisel hair shaving sharp - started w/a fine norton india stone, worked it till i could feel the 'bevel' or whatever ya call it, then worked it some more on a DMT fine stone, then used a strop and then a steel on the reverse side, then worked on the bevel side w/a spydie ceramic, then strop/steel other side about fifty times i think, but FINALLY it is razor sharp - i am scared to cut anything to dull it, and have to resharpen lol- but basically takes a lot of time and patiance - i dont know where people get off saying chisel edges are easy to sharpen , that has not beem my experience at all - i guess they are easy to sharpen to a utility edge, but to get razor sharp? no way imho....

Hey Matt!
Thanks for the link to the jewelstik, looks like the thing to use!

I'll guess i'll keep on trying 'til i get it right.
Do you think that one should use a fine hone or a medium/coarse?

I've recieved chisel ground blades that would easily shave my arm, funny thing about chisels is that they don't feel as sharp as they are, i've honed a few that didn't feel very sharp but cut like crazy

But i do want to get that shaving sharpness! me too agrees that as chisels are claimed to be easier to sharpen then regular it should be easier!!
I have no problems in getting my Mt's, Spydies shaving sharp in no-time, but my EKI chisels...nooope, eventually but it takes much longer time.

But i love'em anyway... ;)

2Sharp,

First to start out with a disclaimer, I'm a newbie so please bear with me. What I do is mark up the edge with a felt tip marker then use my fine sharpmaker stick (flat side) freehand until I remove the ink. The more I've been doing it, the better I seem to be getting at it. I still haven't been able to get my CQC7A as sharp as I received it but it's pretty close. I too am going to check out the jewelstick though cause I need an easier and more consistant way to sharpen my chisel grinds. Good luck. -Rick

Brigadier: Great advice about the Jewelstik. I have never seen one before and the "Stubby" makes perfect sence. All three grits on one stick. I ordered one today. It will be perfect for all of these curved blades (especially the Commander which can be tough to sharpen). Thanks!
