My nephew has enlisted in the U.S. Marines, and I'm very, very proud of him. :D About 9 months ago I related that his heart was in it, and he proved that it indeed was. He never excelled in school, and most of my family wished he would have gone another direction...

My mom stayed at my brother's home in California durning XMAS, and my nephew kept thanking her for supporting his decision. Apparently my mom and myself were some of the few who did... It was in his heart, is still in his heart, and is something he's been knocking around for a couple of years. I applaud him for being so decisive in his direction, and being able to focus himself for this endeavor, which might be even unpopular for many...

He's recently shown a lot of interest in automotive mechanics, and I know that the Marines will even offer him schooling in the future, and a career if he decides that route to take. Whatever he does decide to do, he's one of the few people who I know who's truly going to be "doing what they love, and loving what they do." I feel that he's already a successful person, and will do well in life. :)

He's partly occupied with being a high school senior and enjoying himself before he "ships out" in June. He's also working out a lot, and I've helped him plan out an effective program to really increase his muscular strength and cardiovascular conditioning before he enters the harsh realities of boot camp. I think the 'Gestalt' will do him very well; it will surely assist him in growing up quickly. May he stay out of harm's way...

Congratulations, Dr Dan. I am proud of him. There are so many pitfalls and terrible choices young people can make; this will only make him stronger.

Pass on our best to your nephew DrDan (boy we have a lot of Dan's here don't we?). There aren't many with the intestinal fortitude to sign up in wartime. It's something he and you can always be proud of.

Your son will make a fine Marine and will make you proud.

I'd be equally proud if my son became a Marine if that was HIS decision, but this is my nephew. ;) My son's only 6 years old... :D

Sorry. I was late for remedial reading class.

Green Ice; I'm certain Drdan doesn't mind the mild mixup and is pleased by the sentiments in your earlier post.

Dr Dan
He will do fine. He is about to join a unique Brotherhood. You WILL see a difference in him when he comes home on leave the first time. You and his family should be very proud.

I'm sure I'm not alone here in saying I'm proud of him too.
Ditto! With so many other directions kids can take these days I am ashamed for the family that Did Not support him.
What the hell is wrong with people like that?!?!?!? :grumpy: :(

Tell him, for me, "Welcome to the Brotherhood of the Military". He may have not joined MY prefered branch,(Army), but sounds like the kid has his heart right where it should be.

Thanks for the nice words and support! :) I think he'll do just fine, and he'll grow considerably for the experience.

My brother frequently mentions that he can take on my 17 year old (soon to be Marine) nephew and his 15 year old broither simultaneously in a wrestling match. With my nephew SERIOUSLY working out now (already up to 175 lbs. bench press), and boot camp in June, it would be precious to have a photo of my nephew pinned his overweight and out of shape dad come XMAS time! :D :D :D They'll see and FEEL the difference, and respect him more for his decision.

If my nephew is happy, I'm happy... He'll be getting my FF too...

Dan this is the fine young man you have spoken about before isn't it? I'm sure glad he stuck by his desision! Tell him to listen too his Sergeant's, they can and will save his life when the chips are down and it will no doubt come too that sooner or later.:(

I assume you mean the 17" Foxy Folly? If so, you had better order two.:p The ones Dan and I received are definitely first and high grade knives!!!! :D  :D
You'll be sorry if you don't have one I guarantee!!!! :p
