It is becoming one of those itches that will need to be scratched soon too!

I am forming the design for a full blown Sword in the back of my mind.

It is forming as a combination Chinese War sword with a curved blade and something like a Pirates cutlass. Probably a modernistic version, but definetly a FULL blown usable Sword. Professional HT made from 5160 or 1095 for the first one.

Has anybody tried one of these?
What pitfalls am I headed for?
Guess I better order some more Belts...

I know how you feel about the itch, I have a couple of pictures going around in my head. I want to make a viking style sword (9th cent) full length, traditional demask patern. the hilt would be 14th cent. german. I'm still working on the steel patern

I cant help with advice, just encouragement.

have fun ____ Eric

I understand the itch well. I've been trying to make the perfect sword for years. The closest I've come is a heavy Matulis with a hand and a half grip. I settled on 5160 years ago for all my swords. 10 series gives a better hamon if you care about that but I've never gotten a really showey one so it isn't a big concern of mine. The advantage of 5160 is it's ability to take use (abuse).

Good luck on the project, when you come up with a design I'd like to hear about it. I'm still looking for the perfect modern design.:)
