I'm going camping up Rock Canyon or Johnsons hole up Provo Canyon here in Central Utah this weekend and wanted to extend an invitation to anyone thats interested in coming.
Johnsons Hole is about a 20 to 30 minute hike in up a steep switch back trail. There's no water up there that I found but it has a wide open meadow and trees around it and to the north. A perfect place to practice Brush shelters and do stargazing at night. It's also my first choice do to those facts.
The place up Rock Canyon I'd like to camp at is is about a 30 to 50 minutes hike in. It has lots of trees and places to rock climb since it's kind of a slot canyon. There is some water in there but not much right now. Doesn't have as good a view of the night sky but does have plenty of cool rocks. and trees for shelter making.
The plan is to meet at my apartment sometime Friday afternoon (earlier the better) and head out to either Rock Canyon or Canyon Glen Park (trail head to Johnsons Hole). Once we have picked out a good spot, we make camp and start having fun! Probably come home between 11:30am and 3pm on Saturday.
The weather forcast for Friday is highs in the mid 60's low of aournd 40 and Saturday it's supposed to get into the 70's. So IMO Perfect weather for a spring campout. Since the weather should be really nice, I'm planning to make a brush shelter/survival shelter at the camp site. I have not made one since high school so my skills are rusty and figure I should practice in some good weather.
If anyone is interested in joining us please post here, email or PM me. BTW My friend Lyndsie whome I knew at Snow College back in 2001 is planning on coming so girls feel free to come and guys, feel free to bring your wives/girl friends.
