Can anyone tell me how these fair as far as quality goes? they seem to be one of the only companies offering a carbon steel barlo at a modest price. any info would be great, Thanks.

Uticas are very well made, but some people think their springs aren't snappy enough. Cutco owns KAbar, but is most famous for door-to -door-sold kitchen knives. I didn't know they made any pocket knives under that name.

Hi,

These dont seem to get a lot of attention here. I've been tempted by them also. The little I've read seems to indicate they tend to soft actions and a bit of hit or miss QC. So I've been holding off on a purchase. Still, the premium Stockman keeps calling my name. I hope a few here can post a review.

I have two Utica knives of recent production.
I bought a Barlow when they first came out a couple of years ago. I found it to have good fit and finish, but the springs were about a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10 for strength. The blades stay where you put them, but there is not much snap to the action. The blades and springs are exactly flat in open and closed position.

I also have a Utica stockman. I actually like it a lot. The springs are about a 4. On mine the blades and springs are exactly flat in both the opened and closed positions. (This is something very desirable to me in a knife.) It has come out that on at least some of the models only the clip blade is carbon steel. The others are stainless. Makes me no nevermind, but it may be an issue for you.

I carried the stockman as a daily weekend carry for a few weekends. I found it to be a solid knife which would stand up well to backyard chores.

Overall, I think the Uticas are worth what is charged for them. Decent working knife at a lower price. But if your interest is as a collector, I'd look elsewhere.
