How do these knives perform. The steel seems nice for the price, but are they decent quality?

Not bad for the price, users and definitely not collector knives. I have two, a Big Pine premium and a 3 7/8 Catskill stockman. They take a nice edge and I don't worry about using them for hard work.

I have a Mariner styled blade from them. It has performed wonderfully in the time that i've used it.

bought a carbon steel barlow for my dad to carry when he's not carrying his yeller Case CV peanut, they look nice, F&F was okay real lazy on snap, just under the Case knives i have but definitely serviceable.

I'll second the motion. Users. And good ones. Very solid in the hand. I'm quite fond of my Utica stockman. It's one of my favorites. Good bang for the buck, though it did take some oiling to develop a satisfactory smap! I have nicer one, but it still gets pocket time.

Utica/Kutmaster makes a very solid, heavy-duty, knife in their version of the Electrician's TL-29 Knife. Here it is as Klein"s Electrician's Knife model (1550-2).

The knife is well built and solid. Heck, even the blades are centered between the liners and there are no gaps along the spine. Utica is making them for Klein. Made in U.S.A. !

I've handled a few and found them to be of reasonable quality. I dunno they are quite on the same level as a Case ( but then again I've seen some Case that were pretty sorry) but better than a Bear for sure. The 1095 is good as far as the hardness goes and all in all the new Uticas make excellent using knives as far as I'm concerned:thumbup:.

I think Uticas are as good as anybody's, but I'm prejudiced, being from Utica myself. A lot of my Uticas are older- although I've never seen anyone selling new ones this far west, I used to find a lot of them at flea markets.

It used to be that the Uticas stamped Kutmaster were made in Utica, or so I was told, but I think that's no longer the case. Their website makes it pretty clear which ones are made in USA, though, last time I looked.

Mine is plainly marked "USA". It isn't an import.

Handled a few yesterday
They had flaws but seemed decent overall. Gaps and small cracks were present on many I looked at.

Here's my two, the 3 7/8" stockman:

and the 3 9/16" premium:

The stockman is a chunky knife, while the premium is pretty much disappears in my pocket.
