Utica Slipjoints?

I no longer see them being sold anywhere. Does anyone know if Utica quit making slipjoints or not?

Last I knew they had cut way back on their traditionals, and I believe were making them in only carbon. I google Utica Kutmaster to check up on them. You can also download their current catalogue for free.

Just checked. Nothing left but a one- blade and two-blade trapper, and their homages to the Buck 110 and 112.
They're still making more modern-looking folders.
And their website is now uticausa, no mention of kutmaster.

I noticed that the old kutmaster site is gone and now points to their new domain name. All pretty clear indication Utica has made the move to phase out their traditionals line.

Such a shame, definitely not a good decision if you ask me.
The modern market is already overflowing as it is, and with all the lower priced Chinese offerings with the more premium type aspects they probably won't be able to compete and will be ruined.
What they should have done is expanded on the Kutmaster line of traditional knives, with queen gone we have even fewer American made traditional options.
They could really seize an opportunity to put Bear & Son in enough danger to take a step back and start improving their QC.
Maybe even acquire the contract for Remington knives from Buck so a quality bullet trapper can be made again ( Buck is great but aren't doing any Remington patterns )

I hope they're still manufacturing their electrician at least, if not Klein may have to start sourcing them from China or something because Utica was the last American manufacturer of them.

I'm skeptical that Bear would be able to make better knives even if they wanted to.

I have only handled a couple at the hardware store which I didn't buy for obvious reasons, but I've heard their sodbuster tends to be decent.

Stuart Taylor contracted with Utica to make "Schrade Walden" trappers and slender stockmans in the early years after the Schrade bankruptcy. These are the same as those under the Utica brand of the same time period. Both show up on the big auction site. I have never owned one because I don't collect Uticas or "Schrade Waldens" made by them, but I suspect they are good, and have nice jigged bone handles. Just because knives are discontinued does not mean they cannot be found.

It is a definite shame. The modern market is packed and the Utica modern knives, especially China made, are nothing special. But Utica traditionals, both old and newer are nice.

I was trying to get my hands on one of their Big Pine Barlows. I found one that said it was available online, only to find oit after order it wasn’t.

I have some of the older Utica made Girl Scout knives that are still in pretty good shape.

The only traditional slipjoints I saw that are made in usa are one and two blade trappers, and a 3" penknife with embossed? metal covers. Searching for Utica Knives gives a number of online stores carrying various USA and China made models. I found the above website by searching for Utica Cutlery. Looks like their niche is promotional branded cutlery, tools, gadgets, etc.
