I’ve recently been fixing up my first, and hopefully last, real house.

It was built in 1962 and needs a good deal of attention, but I’m enjoying the process a lot and am finding myself working on it almost every day.

My problem is that I can’t bring myself to use my relatively new Spyderco Para 2 for much of the cutting and scraping that I need to do.

I’ve tried carrying a snap-off style utility blade, but it’s too long to fit comfortably in my pocket, and too flimsy for harder cutting.

Now I’m carrying my CS Tuff Lite along with my Para 2, but apparently the Tuff Lite is still too precious for the jobs that I know will damage the edge…

So, I’m hoping you folks can help me pick a folding knife that accepts standard utility blades that I can use with wild abandon.

This is an example of what I’m looking for:

This is the Gerber EAB.

I’d like something similar, but under 2oz., not made by Gerber (I’m still salty about their “Ultimate Survival Knife” that was apparently assembled with hot glue), and ideally made in the US, Canada, the EU, Australia/NZ, Taiwan, Japan, South America, Africa, Russia, or Ukraine. Other countries too, but please let me know where it’s made if possible.
Also ideally somewhere under $100.
Thanks!
👍

Civivi and kizer do one.
I have used the civivi it is very nice.

Temu do a desert warrior one. That I still have in my cart for when I want to buy a bunch of temu stuff.

And I just discovered. Demko do one.

There are a bunch of cool offerings now for the standard Stanley 1992 blade. Personally, I prefer the ones designed specifically for utility blades over ones that were adapted from regular folders. A lot of utility knives are more minimal instead of a full 4-finger grip, but work in a pinch. My favorite of those is the Rivery Zero, really fun to fidget with and USA made:

My current favorite full knife is the Chaves CHUB OTF, also USA made and fidgety:

Thanks people!

There are more and more examples out there and I figured I’d missed several.

The Rivery and Demko are particularly interesting…

Anything else?

Exceed Designs! Or big Idea Design!
Either on of them will serve you well.

Husky Lockback Utility Knife that I bought years ago at Home Depot for $8. Still available (w/slightly different looks) for that price now & a pack of 100 utility blades that'll last forever costs $15.

I’m partial to the knives that use the standard Stanley blade. Some of my favorites I’m interested in are:

Aerocrafted Sideslip

Gear Infusion Ghost Ti

Exceed Designs
Tirant Razor M 3.0 (mag lock)

TNP (Tactical and Portable)
Avis-Pry

Big Idea Designs:
Titanium Pocket Tool

Ryfined Gear
Kut.
Duplex.

OLight Otacle Pro.

I have the Exceed Design Tirant Razor 3 with carbon fiber and I really like it.

I have a Big I Design TPT. I do not recommend. It is too small (medium hands), so I rarely carry it.

Here's another cool one, the Moye Works Baly 3. Usually in titanium but this one is zirconium. The texturing on the handles works well and you get more of the utility blade exposed for use than with most, but you don't need a tool to swap the blades since it uses a thumbscrew.

Olfa utility knives stand up to heavy work and are fairly compact IMHO. The larger 18 mm. L-1 model is very sturdy.

CHUB Flipper. Part of my daily daily. Gets constant use. Sometimes it opens boxes. No extra blade storage but not really a problem as blades are always nearby. Flawless function.
Good luck finding one though.
