Hello guys,

I'm looking to buy an utility fixed blade to have around the house.
I'm more of a folder guy but, since moved to a new house, i feel the need to have a fixed blade.
I never bought one so i need your help:)
I'm going to use it mainly for working with wood but it will probably be used for food prep from time to time.
I'm not going to start collecting fixed blades, i hope:D, so i'm looking for one that lasts a long time.
However, the money isn't much due to the last knife purchase but i can probably go to 130$, hopefully!
I have the Falkniven F1 in mind because it resembles my only fixed blade grail, the Busse S.C.A.B.S.
I would like something of the size of the Falkniven or just a tad bigger. Also i would like it to be full tang.
So what do you say, the F1 or something else?

P.S: I know the Mora is great and would most likely fit the bill but i want something nicer:D

Thanks for looking:)

For that price I bet you could get one of the makers on here to make you a custom just as you would like it to be. Mr Bryan Breeden is the first one to c?ome to my mind sir...;-)

where can i see his work and how can i get in touch with him?

You could do a search here, it is an ongoing thread now. There is a typo in the threadtitel so if you search for breedon you will find lots of. Pics there sir.

If a Busse knife is your grail , why not check out the Busse kin Scrap Yard site . Right now they have their SYKCO 511 for sale at just $89 . Leaving you plenty to buy a sheath for it . You get the no questions asked lifetime warrantee , SR-101 steel (use by Swamp Rat Knife Co) and the comfortable Res-c handle . Hard to beat getting into the Busse kin family for a price like that .

HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS !

Better than the F1 (IMO) and significantly cheaper, the peltonen/fiskars M/95 sissipuukko, although it has a 6" blade. The M/07 is a more standard 4-5" blade.
I'd post pics but the only ones I could find online would earn me an infringement for "deal spotting".
"Sledge hammer & walnut" and "SOPA/PIPA" comparisons aside, This knife can be bought for as little as 75 euro.
Very clever sheath design as well.

If a mora will fit the bill then I highly suggest getting a knife by Farmer. I have the one below and I got it exactly for the reason of an "upgraded" mora. Turns out this knife with it's thin convex grind blows the mora away and rivals a good kitchen knife for food prep. I think I paid just over 100 for it.

Get a Razel - great for woodworking. Also, I see this a lot on these forums, but why would you your home utility knife for food prep? Do people not have kitchen knives any more? This is BladeForums - we're knife knuts. We should all have nice kitchen blades too! Just my 2 cents.

The kitchen knife knuts are in another forum. For some reason, there isn't much crossover.

Cold Steel has a few things that might fit the bill. Don't know how you feel about black blades, but some of them are availible plain, too.

If you already have the F1 in mind , get one.

It won't let you down.

(If you actually use it,a lot, the logo will wear off ;) :D )

thanks for all the suggestions ppl:)
still didn't made up my mind so kkep it coming please:)

i for one have some niceish kitchen knives and will end up with some customs when i have the finances, the problem is we live with people who arent knife knuts and they dont know how to treat hidh end kitchen knives which are fragile by nature.

If you want a UTILITY fixed blade then I would say you should get the DPX HEST Fixed blade. It is a very good choice for a utility fixed blade it has a bottle opener on the top of the blade, a wire cutter on the knifes edge and a prybar on the back of the knife and it is still really good for food prep. and batoning wood! Also, it has a little spot in the handles that are removeable where you can put a some survival stuff or whatever you feal like. You can only buy it on there site http://dpxgear.com/index.php for $100 bucks and on there site they list it as the HEST ORIGINAL.

Now if you just want a knife for OUTDOORS use you should get the ESEE 3 or 4. Or ESEE 5 or 6 for heavy duty outdoors work. But are still good utility knives too. These are great knives with great steel and are overrall just a great knife with the best warranty in the bussiness, basically if you break it they will give you another one. All of the ESEE's accepet the 5 (which is $140-$150ish) are about $100 bucks. Also, ESEE use to manurfacture the DPX Hest so thats pretty cool.

Anyways, hope that helped your descision on what you buy and dont forget to tell us what you buy!
