utility knife question

I have tried dewalt. Irwin. Lenox gold. Even a specialty kind I can't remember. . Didn't notice too big of a difference. I do think the carbon steel black olfa blades beat utility blades.

I tend to prefer the Irwin bimetal blades. They just seem to last longer for me but that is subjective and not something I pay a great deal of attention to. Give the serrated utility blades a try. They work pretty well especially on carpet.

^^^^^no, no, and no........!!!!

I have tried every utility blade out there...I am an electrician and we beat utility blades to death everyday.
They are constantly making hard contact with metal, and that's what kills them.

I can say without a doubt that Lenox Ti coated blades last the longest, and I have tried everything.
They are not the cheapest, but outlast any other blade by a ratio of 5-1....

(Sorry, this is a very emotional topic for me......!!)

The Lenox gold blades are somewhat new. I have tried them out.

One needs to ask themselves if lasting 5x longer (and at a higher cost) is important when you have a couple dozen replacements in your tool box? I admit that I don't use utility knives every day. It is job use for usually a day and then you move on to other tasks.

That said, I do tend to use what I consider to be commercial grade stuff. I learned my lesson with reciprocating saws..... burnt up three black & deckers in one job and it wasn't hard use; just constant use. I upgraded and now they last years each, but I always keep a back up (usually a corded one now).

Absolutely!!
HVAC dude here and it's not even worth discussing!
If your utility knife is used each and every day these are the blades you want!
Period!

Glad you feel so strongly about the Lenox blades. I don't use a utility knife every day, but I do use them often. But on your recommendation, I am going to pick up a pack of them next time I visit a home center. I'll put them in my white Lenox utility knife. :D I guess it is somewhat like any other knife steel question when you compare cost and use. The typical deal with my guys is.... need utility knife, I hand them one, they proceed to replace the blade..... regardless of what blade is in there. That bugs me a bit actually, but I can live with it. I probably have a dozen utility knives in my work vehicle. If I "issued" one to a worker, they'd just leave it at home and I'd have to give them another. That happened when I first started with knives and I quit giving knives to anyone. Buy your own.
