Utterly THRASHED 910SBT LH

Hi Benchmade fans,

I carried a 910SBT LH from pretty much the day they hit stores in the late 90s, till a year or two ago when it literally fell apart. It's missing all but one or two screws, but I still have the rest of it.

I'd like to restore/rebuild it with my own scales, but I'm too much of a 'tard and have too short of an attention span to measure everything properly myself- I'm looking to buy replacement screws and standoffs to replace the spacer as I've seen others do, but I can't seem to find any web sources of the dimensions so I can order or make some more.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction? I'd appreciate some Benchmade expertise, for this layman.

Thanks!

Benchmade will send you the screws you lost, lots of folks do work... Keyman does some awesome work.

I'd love to see pics of your blade and if sending it to Benchmade for sharpening, I'd do that before sending it out for scales etc.

Benchmade customer service may be reached at 800-800-7427.

Right- only I want to do it myself. See above. It was my understanding that BM would not send me anything except screws...which kind of screws me.

The blade is beyond sharpening- I'm jut going to have BM make another.

That might be a problem as there are no more blades for these long discontinued models along with BKC's policy of no parts shipped except screws and clips.

I was told on the phone it was no problem to replace a blade on an old model, as it's simply a small CNC file they've saved. My understanding is that they would only do this for existing knives, not make new ones entirely.

But you didn't hear that from me. ;)

Stand offs may very well be compatible with stock screws.

I want to see an unsalvageable blade, I understand wanting the blade to look like new though.

My original reply was a direct answer to what you said, you have everything but the screws... So replace the screws before you start work on it... It will then have the hardware to make it stock again if nothing else. You said you were too much of a "tard" to do it yourself... Which is why I mentioned Keyman or the plethora of other members here who do that kind of work.

Anyhow, best of luck and if they have the CNC files stashed.... Imagine that blade in M4.... Just sayin!

It's not that I want it to look new- the serrations are pretty much gone.

I'm fully capable of making G10 or CF scales if I've got the hardware, but I lack the confidence in my caliper (not to mention my ability to thread my own standoffs should I actually go ahead and cut some) and my attention span, to measure them right. I can just see it deteriorating into an exercise in frustration.

My thinking was, if I could simply buy the standoffs and screws- for example, the ones on usaknifemaker.com- shaping some scales would be a cakewalk.

Funny thing is, I scored a NOS one for 90 bucks a couple of years ago, that's been sitting in my bugout box since then. I'd like to restore the first one, as it was a gift from someone who's gone now.

Also, I know not of this "M4" you speak of. I think the orig. was 154CM? I've got one that says something about a patent, and one that just says Elishewitz on the right side.

Making a new blade from a 'CNC file' is news to me. For years once the blade stock is gone it's gone. I'll have to check on this. Anyway, the first steel used on the Strykers was ATS-34 and probably then 154CM. And on M4, which is a very tough high-carbon tool steel, now very popular, Skimo was just saying how nice it would be to have a Stryker in that version of steel. I'd go for one myself...!

No, because there's nothing to ask. Asking for a blade to replace one so long discontinued is not possible - unless they had a spare in a box tucked away somewhere; and that's happened, but finding an original 910 blade? Uh uh.
