The Cold Steel UWK is a great light-duty, fish/camp knife that can be used for everything but splittin' cord wood!
Light & nimble, with a fine point for small work. This puppy can make your weekend campout an even greater pleasure!

Is it just that I'm remembering wrong or did they used to make these out of AUS-8? Looks to be Carvon V now, which would be a serious improvement.

I have always liked this blade design.

You are right t1, they used to be 8A. IIRC, I got a flyer mid year announcing the new change to CarbonV.

Cerberus:cool:

It went from AUS-8A to 420sub-zero to Carbon V. Even folks that didn't try cornering Mr. Thompson under the mistletoe have got to love that.

I've heard that some of the Cold Steel Kraton-handled fixed blades have a problem with the handle "rotating" after hard use -- I presume the tang is dipped in Kraton, so the grip could spin in torqued. Has anyone experienced this?

Yeah right! Why do so many on this board like to "bash" Cold Steel products?
Cold Steel makes some of the sweetest knives I own, never had any problems with them.
I own a Trailmaster,OSS & UWK & I love each of 'em. Best $ I ever spent.
A PeaceKeeper & Master Hunter & Ti-Lite are on my wish list too.
It sux being poor!

Perhaps not, though it does look like a SOG it is not serrated like a SOG.
I cannot afford the 6.5" Puma Bowie yet, so I bought the UWK as a cheaper priced substitute.Hence, the title, friend.
I modified my UWK by cutting off the top quillion & filed/sanded it smooth.
I then jimped the thumb-groove on the back of the blade using my dremel tool & diamond bit.

It's modeled after the SOG Bowie..even says so in the catalog
You can model a knife after another, and add/remove things like saw backs etc. Kinda like Blackjacks randall replicas
