United cutlery makes it.

Uzi Eclipse

I't doesn't sound like something I'd want to pay $150 for. But it is intrigueing.

I just wonder if it would be practical to have a fixed blade that is designed to sink into the handle.

or if the design would be legal under laws that ban switchblades and gravity knives.

I googled the knife to take a look and it appears to be like the Phantom Rip Cord knife ( I own one), only cheaper. Practical? Well it does allow you to carry a long blade in a short package, but a lot depends on how good the lock up is - the Rip Cord is all metal and locks open like a bank vault, the Uzi is Zytel. Legal? Should be as it doesn't use a button or spring to open, but who knows what a cop will do if he finds one on you. I bought my Phantom as a curiosity and don't carry it. Some dealers are taking pre orders on the Uzi for around $80.00, about half the price of the Phantom. Hope this helps. :p

United Cutlery isn't known for high quality. 420HC and Zytel are less expensive, but not bad materials. Rocky Moser is a familiar name.

But why? How much sheathed length are you really saving, to be worth the necessarily weaker structure of a sliding blade?

I just got a knife with a 4+1/8" blade, 8+3/4" overall.
The Eclipse is 4+1/16", 5+7/8" overall.

Saving: about 3".
