Can someone, an owner preferably, comment on the quality and ergonomics of the Uzi Heavy Defender knife? I don't know about the sawback and I don't know about all the ridges on the handle that are apparently for wrapping cord around. I mean, I always appreciate a bit of cord, but with the blade thick as it is I'm worried it would make the handle too fat. Plus, if it's for cordwrapping couldn't you have done it for me, Uzi?

Yeah. Comments appreciated. It's not exactly an expensive knife, being production & all, but I hate to waste money--especially since the alternative is a ZT0100.

Thanks!

I own the 154CM version. I bought it a long time ago, mostly because I thought (and think) it looked good.
It's a fairly heavy knife, but the handle is comfortable. It's a fulltang knife, with metal sticking out between the slabs, in winter time it gets cold and you will need gloves.
I never tried the sawback for real but I do not think it's very effective, the blade is relatively thick and the angle too shallow. The teeth are very fine.
The steel is just excellent, it was the sharpest knife I ever received from a factory, and it's easy to sharpen while keeping that edge well. Has a very nice chisel-edged swedge too.

I have no idea what the ridges are for, it certainly does not need any wrapping, I think it's mostly a design feature...
The overall quality I would say is very good, it's a very durable and rugged knife. I also love the design still. I won't ever sell it. It's not the best camp knife I own, and it doesn't get much use these days, but that's more because I regard it a collector's item (it's been discontinued some time ago), not so much because it sucks. It doesn't. ;) I have more rugged and more easily replaceable knives in its stead.

HTH,
