Uzi Knife

There was a lengthy thread on this knife a few months ago. The consensus is give it a shot for the money. You had your typical No way! to Why not?!

Some lamented the apparent uncomfortable handle while others stated it was unexpectedly comfortable considering how it looked.

Some held the United Cutlery sucks position.

I have two of the Uzi Autos that I paid $70ish bucks each for and I think they are a fine $70 knife to be sure. My complaint about the autos (one smooth anodized and one with the rubber inserts) is the fire button is small and could be easier to deploy but apart from that, as autos go, there is not much blade play and they open quite fast and strong. You have to hang on to them when you fire the button. The F&F is right on too.

Do you think that 154cm they use for this is of the inferior kind that's floating around? Or has that pretty much disappeared?

I couldn't say. I can say the 154CM on my two autos seems as good as any but I have not really tested the edge retension on them to a large degree. They sharpen up really nice.

There is no catch. The knife is just not worth the MSRP of $312 for a 154CM knife.I just got the Uzi heavy duty defender and if you want there's one for sale in the exchange section. They also can be had elsewhere online, you just have to look around.

Actually the seller that I bought from had them on ebay a month ago for $61.99US ea. brand new with sheath. The sheath IMO is just terrible and the handle are a pain to take off, since the rubber insert have to be painstakingly peeled off to access the screws. As i found out after a sharpening and a good wash was water inside the handle.

SMKW.com has had that knife at $70 for quite some time. Were they really once $300? The pic shows 2 handle screws. How many are there under the rubber? And why did you want to remove the handle?

There's a screw under each of the rubber inserts and their glued on.Took a little bit a carefully peeling and prying with a dull screwdriver. The reason I took the handle off was because I notice the day after washing it ,there was an orange colour coming from the handle and when I took the handle off the skeletonized blade I found it had a considerable amount of water.Good thing it was caught early.

Is there any good cure for water getting between the tang & handle? Could you paint a clear lacquer coat along the division line between the two?

I'm sure all batoners would be interested in this question?!?:foot:

I like the style/design are there any knives styled/designed like this but are actually good quality?

Why on Dog's Green Earth would you want to baton with a United Cutlery Uzi?

Maybe one day a person will be trapped in the wilderness with only this knife? Maybe they will be forced to baton with it or face, starvation, hypothermia or even cannibalism.

This one knife alone lends cred to United Cutlery. I'd probably buy it if there wasn't a world economic meltdown going down as I type this.

...Perhaps thats a good enough reason TO buy it?!?

The simplest way to avoid being "trapped in the wilderness" with only this knife is not to carry this knife.

I'm not a big knife snob, and I think low-end cutlery has its place. This knife could handle light duty chores, certainly. I wouldn't consider it a serious field knife, though.

I'm going to agree with Sharp Phil on this. The Uzi knife can not be baton because the first 2 3/8" is chisel grinded and the rest of the blade's spine is taken by the egree saw.
