I have been jonzing for one and since finding a Case V-42 would be very expensive to get, I have been thinking about buying a replica. I was curious if anyone knows what the difference between the Paul Chen and the Hanwei V-42's are? The look very similiar and I was wondering if there is any QC issues, Keep in mind I'm not buying it to use in the field...and it probably won't get any use. Thanks in advance...

I believe the V-42 is a Paul Chen design distributed by Hanwei. I had one and found it to be an exact replica with very good materials. I was pleasantly surprised to find the grind lines near perfect.

This is a much better made knife than any Sheffield made Fairbairn Sykes I've ever seen.

This is a great knife for the price, go for it.

BTW, the sheath is an excellent rendition of the original that is even harder to find than a V-42 itself.

Case made a reproduction a few years ago, There were 2 versions of it. One was just like the original except for a marking. The other was a presentation grade with brass spacers in the handle and the leather handle was polished smooth and glossy. The sheath is right on the money too. Look at the gun shows, I still see them every once in a while.

Sweet Strider. Saw that at TAD for all of a few hours before it sold. Nice score!! :D

Actually I got this one at Blade, and got to meet Mr. Strider himself! I believe (as far as I know) there is only two ever sold... One I have and the one that was on TAD. And one that was given to someone, by the Strider guys.

There will be a production V42 and will be numbered to 100. It'll be like $500 or $550 I think.

I and one other lucky person has the only two currently made, Mick Strider Custom V42 out there! :)

Hmmm, a couple of Gents with fine taste I see ;-)
It's rather sad to note that Case Knives has no intention of producing V-42 replicas anyday soon due to the difficulty of manufacture, but mostly as I understand it - the lack of general marketing interest; thanks to the various laws governing stilettos and most such other double edge spear points :-(
Which makes me wonder how well this particular Hanwei product would turn out in terms of it being anywhere near a commercial success as the originals.
Perhaps some of you may recall that Gil Hibben had his rendition of the V-42 as well a production version of which was manufactured in the Orient.
Ontario Knives had its Skull crushing SP3-M7 bayonet too.

Anyway you fellas can view both Case V-42 reproductions and Hanwei's here

You might never doubt the quality of Mr Chen's products after reading this

Enjoy!
