I'm contemplating buying an older custom hunter with a "V" for a maker's mark, or at least I think that is the maker's mark. This knife would be from the early to mid 80s. Does anyone know who the maker was? Thanks.
Does the style of the knife seem indicative of a particular maker? I have a Jerry Hossom that has a "V" stamped in it and I thought I'd heard he once had marked his work with just a "V" (mine also has his name). Hopefully someone knows more.

Thanks, and I'm not really familiar enough with Hossom's work to say. It is kind of a medium size skinner etched by Shaw-(or maybe just by Leibowitz) on ebay now. Interesting knife and probably worth the money (low 3s) but it is not really the style I'm collecting and I'm probably going to pass without knowing the maker. If it helps it has "Art Brayshaw '83" hand engraved like with an electo pencil on the etched blade side.
When I basically quit knife collecting the first time back in the early 70s, the knife world was all atwitter with Shaw-Leibowitz's work and Warenski and many others were lining up to have their work on their blades. I think when they came out with their etching system was the last major show I went to and that could not have been more than about 1976 or so and probably earlier.
