Anyone catch the V remake on ABC? Worth watching? For all of the original's campiness, it was a fun mini series.

I remember the original, and I'm looking forward to this one, whenever they'll decide to show it here (if ever).

I caught some of the original series on the SyFy channel over the weekend. Gawd it was bad. Brought back ugly memories of old television.

Watched the pilot episode for the new series. I'd give it a 5 out of 10, but I think the series will get old fast.

Same basic plot as the 1980's with MUCH better effects. I doubt I'll watch the whole series though. This seems like a modern version of the old V and the First Wave combined.

I loved the original as a kid and was excited about the remake but my girl has control of the TV until she crashes..... Thank God for DVR!!!!

Isn't that what a "remake" is?

It need not be a "remake".

Look at the more successful "remakes" and you'll see that the "original" was simply a basis for the "remake".

Hopefully, that will be the sitation with "V".

Personally, I wish they'd skip the "remake" and simply use the "original" as a start of an idea, admit as much, and then make something suffucuently different to clearly stand on its own.

I think that "based on" and discussion of the differences is what made the newer Battlestar Gallactica successful. The creators stated they based the series on the original, but filled it out in different areas, added storylines, etc.

I have seen very few "remakes" that were as good as the original. The problem is that studio execs want to throw money at something, add in better special effects and a current cast, with the hopes of making more money. No creativity whatsoever.

Remember the "Psycho" remake about 10 years ago? It was a scene for scene, shot for shot, word for word copy. Hitchcock sould have been rolling in his grave.

There are some movies that should just be left alone. Remember the "Planet of the Apes" remake? Horrible! Granted, the original was far removed from the book, but was a classic.

I enjoyed the original "V." Heck, i may buy it on DVD. The new one is shaping up pretty good. It's a close copy, though.

Right you are. Take the visitors here, and expand it.

I thought it got off to a pretty good start. Trouble is, I think they intend to air four shows and then hold off airing any more until the new year. Pretty risky if you ask me with a brand new show.

It may not hurt to do that. Four weeks takes us to the end of November, then December off, and starting early January. If they start late January, any heat they develop may die off, but earlier could be okay.

Does anyone remember the pre-release publicity for the original (1983) "V"? The Chicago public transit system was plastered with 24" x 36" Visitor propaganda posters. If I remember right, it was one used in the remake pilot: a smiling Visitor stormtrooper with the logo "Friendship is Universal." Very mysterious. A week later, each poster was covered with a new Visitor poster decorated with a spray-painted V. The first time I saw one, I thought the Weatherman Underground was back!

Of course you couldn't do that today, when anyone could google "Friendship is Universal" and read all about the new TV series.
