V-TEC Knives

For blade material they just give 440...as opposed to 440 A B or C...this generally means that (a) it's 440A, which can be a good metal, but (b) that it's badly heat treated...

and besides a probably inferior blade material, it's a tanto style which functionally isn't really good for such small blades

the name and the pricetag can also tell u a lot in this case ;)

I've bought V-Tech in a sebenza look alike, a $45 knife from NG. It was quite good, apparently Japanese or Taiwan, fit and finish as good as one twice as much.

In this case, the price strongly hints of chinese making, which can be quite acceptable - Kershaw has the Vapor II made there, it's a good knife for $18 and better than some Bucks at $60.

As a small tanto, not so much, the size of the knife implies no real way to use the feature as it will be a mail opener, not man opener. Tanto points on anything less than 6 inches blade length (IMHO) are just a marketing gimmick.

Bundled with a large order, it would be an inexpensive and fun way to learn what they can and can't do - but S&H on it's own would get me to buy discount at a local brickfront.

I would not doubt if Vtech is just Mtech , renamed.

The designs are often near ripoffs of other brands popular sellers , the knife itself might look and function okay but otherwise.:thumbdn:

For $20 you can get a Benchmade mini-pika, or a Byrd, or a Kabar Dozier folder, all of which would be worth the extra $10. Don't get me started on what you could do with $50. :)

Thanks for the feedback fellas. I agree with you as to the usability of the knife, other than general purpose. My carry knife is a Benchmade, that I've carried for years.
I went ahead and took a chance on this knife, but found a vendor on Ebay with shipping for $3.95 and bought two.
The knife is surprisingly well made, and opens and closes smoothly, with a positive lock-up. G-10 scales are machined properly and fitted well. Blade is thick and quite sharp.
It is Chinese made from Balboa Manufacturing in San Diego.
For $23.85 for two knives including shipping, I'm not out much if they don't adequately perform.

V-Tech Predator... now that sounds like a cheesy, gimmicky name. I'd almost be willing to bet you the $7.99 purchase price that even at that low cost, you'd regret buying that knife.

my 2 cents... possibly worth even less.

Don't go anywhere near 'em. I got one for the hell of it a couple years ago, a tanto G-10 handled somethin' or other. It couldn't cut a marshmellow out of the box and the blade looked like a five year old ground it!! Fit and finish was horrible, and to boot it was a design ripoff from some Italian company whose name I can't recall at the moment.

NO GOOD!

Cheers,
Jon
