Va knife laws?

Just about any fixed blade openly and folders under 4 inches is what i remember. No autos, daggers or concealed fixed blades. Its been a while since i read the code but Virginia is fairly relaxed when it comes to knives.

I dont know what the laws are either. I have gone backpacking in PA and VA and have not had any problems openly wearing or packing a large fixed blade (even my 711 while dayhiking :D). Why wouldnt you be able to backpack with a blade larger than 4"? On your hip is open carry and I dont think in your backpack is considered concealed, because it is not accessible to the holder similar to keeping one in your trunk. What is considered concealed and open carry? Some clarity or links on this would be appreciated!

VA knife laws are tricky because cities and counties can adopt their own local ordanances....autos are a huge no no in VA....and only wear a fixed blade open carry but putting a fixed blade in your pack and going on a hike should not be a big deal...police and rangers are cool with this just tell them about it if for some reason you are stopped they will appriciate it and let you go on your way.....i speak from exp on this 1....VA is as jnich005 said pretty relaxed on knives....except autos.....i carry a fixed blade most of the time and live in the city of richmond and have never had an issue. ive hiked many places in va and never had an issue....but if your just walking around a city or driving around with a fixed blade in a bag you may have an issue if caught...in the woods okay...not in woods just out for the day...i wouldnt do it......And in case you were wondering a Va concealed permit is for handguns only CHP concealed handgun permit....this drives me nuts but it is what it is

VA: The main thing is, no autos. No blade length limit that I know of, but if you are going to drive around the beltway in Northern VA (which goes through DC and MD) you have to consider that, should you get in an accident in those areas.

Not that it will affect you, but FYI D.C. laws are 3" limit on folders and no fixed blades. But police in our area don't just stop people and search them unless they are acting outrageous or committing crime. They don't look for pocket clips on ordinary people, in my experience.

why dont you just call the DA office and ask them what there state law says?? that is what I do when I have a question about shipping swichblades into a state.
