I'll be vacationing soon in Oregon and plan on some hiking in the Mt. Hood area. In addition to my Vic Farmer, I'm considering taking one of the following:

Endura
Vapor II
Vex
Benchmade Ascent

Which one would you recommend?

Thanks
Raja

All good carry, but if you're taking your Vic then I'd recommend something different: Take a Bark River Woodland, small compact and massively capable of punching above its weight.

Mind you, this means adding to the expense of your holiday but all in a good cause:D Enjoy yourself!

I tend to agree with willgoy -- look at some small fixed blades. Bark River knives are excellent. For functional fixed blades that cost less, consider Moras or other Scandinavian knives. Ragnar has a huge selection:

Of the ones you have listed, I would take the endura. Compact, light excellent blade.

The Vex and Ascent are undoubtedly good knives, but I'd recommend the Endura from your list. I actually carried a Military in the woods today, but the blades are quite similar.

Overall though, I agree with the idea of an inexpensive, lightweight fixed blade, like one of Ragnar's Moras or puukkos, or for a bit more money, a Bark River like my Highland Special.

Not to be a party pooper, but why take any of them? If your just doing some hiking than the Vic Farmer should be more than sufficiant. Although , if you do take an additional knife, I agree with the others, a fixed blade would be best. Anyway, have a knice trip!

Seconded! :) If you want a second knife in addition to the SAK, go with a fixed blade.

 Bring a Mora along; if you lose it during travel, it won't be that big of a deal (cost-wise).
